How do you forgive the unforgivable? This is the question of the Christian film “Redemption.” Although forgiveness is a common theme in Christian culture, this movie takes an unexpected angle addressing how to forgive the unforgivable while the main character struggles with his own unforgivable past.

Are you a fan of classic old western films? If yes, then you will definitely enjoy this movie filled with rustic, half shaven heroes, villains, and of course, a love interest.

Set in 1862 on the Utah Territory western frontier, the movie follows the story of sheriff Henry Heath, a man with an unsettling past, who is coping with the recent loss of his only daughter while trying to maintain order in the town.

He has no time to grieve when the town discovers the despicable doing of french immigrant Jean Baptiste that have them thirsty for blood.

Baptiste, the town’s grave maker, has been robbing the graves of the recently deceased, one man complaining to the sheriff that Baptiste buried his brother naked.

As the word spreads, many become indignant and things worsen when he tries to deny his actions. To this town of hard working people who don’t have much, robbing graves is a very serious accusation.

“I just cannot understand how you can rob the dead for their clothing,” the town’s governor said outrageously.

With many wanting to see the worst done to Baptiste and outlaws looking to take the law into their own hands, he is exiled to the inhospitable Antelope Island. At a crossroads between justice, duty, outrage, and guilt from his path, Heath becomes Baptiste’s only defense against those seeking his life and the unlivable isolation of the island.

Believing that his daughter died because of his wrong doings, Heath’s perspective is challenged through his reluctant service to Baptiste. Examining his beliefs about mercy, justice, and forgiveness, he’s left to answer whether he can have compassion for and forgive someone who seems the least deserving of Christian love.
